Our research work is largely motivated by the needs of real-time information gathering through embedded sensor networks in unattended environments and effective information sharing over Internet. Networking technology was born to enable information sharing at anywhere during anytime. Though it boosted the golden age of IT industry in the past decade, its key goals are still not reached yet:
- How to collect information efficiently from an unattended environment? Most information in Internet today is collected and entered manually, since we are lack of effective technology to collect information from environments autonomously and smartly.
- How to share information in real-time over Internet? Today's network is based on address routing, hence we need first know the IP address, before we can access the information. To enable real-time information sharing, we need a fundamental revolution to enable content based routing mechnism.
Sensorweb research lab is focusing on inventing the new technologies to reach these goals. The new technologies under our development can potentially support many new applications, to name a few, such as environmental monitoring, battlefield surveillance, networked transportation, home networking and smart factories.
